This was the first version of AutoCAD to include PostScript and PDF export capability, as well as NetWare export.ĪutoCAD 2003 was released in October of 1995, with a new user interface and a fully object-oriented editing environment that streamlined design changes and fixed certain software bugs. This also introduced AutoCAD’s first version numbering scheme, in which the versions are AutoCAD (2.0), AutoCAD 2000, and AutoCAD LT.ĪutoCAD 2002 was released in April of 1992, introducing the ability to save AutoCAD files as single-page ASCII text files. The original AutoCAD was no longer sold, but was replaced with AutoCAD 2000. Introduced in 1990, the feature set of AutoCAD was expanded to include both 2D and 3D components, as well as image editing.ġ990 also saw the release of the first of the now three “versions” of AutoCAD. In 1987, 3D-modeling capabilities were introduced, with the primary difference being that three-dimensional shapes could now be “lifted” into two-dimensional drawings. AutoCAD LT was widely adopted in the architect community due to its ease of use and the fact that it used a standard Macintosh mouse, and was easily configured to work with many third-party software packages.
This introduced a new paradigm to CAD users. After the release of AutoCAD 2.0 in December of 1982, the original AutoCAD, version 1.0, was discontinued.ĪutoCAD LT (now AutoCAD 2.0) introduced the notion of “documents” and “layers” to CAD as well as the capability to make custom shapes in addition to basic 2D and 3D shapes.
